Case study incidental finding of follicular lymphoma

Michelle Bolam, Healthcare Science Section Lead in Haematology and Haemostasis at Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust, presents a case study.

Routine monitoring bloods were received for a 70-year-old male inpatient with the clinical details “inflammatory markers”. The patient had been admitted the previous day for being “off legs”. The patient’s full blood count (FBC) was processed in the laboratory (Table 1). The only parameter out of reference range was a very mild lymphocytosis (which does not technically meet this laboratory’s criteria for making a blood film).
